Pinion is a collection of coffee and side tables inspired by a round gear. The starting point for this project comes from observing mechanical gears in different artefacts.
“I have always been fascinated by mechanical constructions and joinery in general. The pinion gear allows several movements in mechanics, and this very interconnection between different gears has inspired me to create this collection of tables,” — says designer Simone Affabris.
Pinion tables are available in three sizes and heights. Each table is made from oiled oak wood and features a round brass plate right at the centre of the tabletop. This subtle detail not only adds a sophisticated touch but extends the concept of mechanics to the materials and final appearance of the table. Lightweight Pinion tables can be arranged individually or in a composition of your choice. The tables are convenient when decorating living rooms, welcoming guests in the lounge area or may serve as elegant bedside tables. What is more, the clever construction allows flat packing Pinion tables for easy transportation or compact storage when not in use.

Simone Affabris is a furniture and product designer from Italy, currently based in Sweden. Graduated from IUAV University of Design in Venice (Italy), he later completed his master’s at HDK University in Gothenburg (Sweden). The fortune to be born in Venice — a city rich in traditions and beauty — has allowed Simone to develop a keen sense of aesthetics, which he applies in his work.
Currently, Simone is deeply interested in wood joinery and woodworking. He also believes that everything can become an inspiration for designing a new product. Simone’s works combine Italian design roots with the cleanness and functionality that Swedish design is famous for. His goal is a fusion of these two identities, focusing on smart packaging, wood joinery, and small details that make a product unique and appealing
